How do the television broadcasters get the ratings of the shows?

Is that the best way to voice a protest to the
programming, including (or especially) the news?
In any case, we can always turn of the tv and have some peace and quiet for a change, if they don’t care what they fob off on us.

They select people and do polls.
I’ve been asked to do it twice.
During the survey you write down how many TV.s you have, how many people in your home, what each person is watching at certain time, did you watch the entire show, etc.
That’s how they get their ratings.

Nielsen Families are various families in America that have boxes hooked up to their tv’s to monitor what they are watching. It is supposed to be an accurate representation of what the population is watching. Anyone can apply to be a Nielsen Family.
If you want to boycott or share your opinion, I would search for the name of the Programming Director on the station’s site. Then, write or email him/her and describe what it is that you dislike about the programming.

No. They have a number people that sign on for their t.vs to be monitored . They assign those people a certain box/computer to, and it keeps track of what channels they switch to at what times. So the ratings are based on what those people watch.
I forget what they call those people but it is a term that you’ve probably heard but never knew that’s what it meant.
