Weight loss, for some, is like an unobtainable reward that is just out of their reach. Enthusiasm is usually not the problem, at least in the early days of a weight loss program. The farther we get from our first resolution to lose weight, the less motivated we often feel. There are ways to prevent this. Read on to find out how you can not only lose weight but keep it off.

Initially, plan exactly what you hope to achieve with your weight loss regimen. Maybe you just want to fit back into the clothes you were wearing last year? Do you want to reach a certain goal weight? Do you want to feel better?

Be sure to keep track of the progress you are making each week. Keep a regular journal that has records of your weight, preferably measured by the week. You should also make a diary of the food you consume daily. By physically recording what you eat, you will be more self aware and perhaps more discerning in your dietary choices.

If you become too hungry, your ability to make rational food choices will diminish and you may end up on an eating binge that you will later regret. Plan your meals in advance and take them with you if you are busy. You will be better off in many ways if you take your lunch from home instead of eating out. You will save lots of money and get a better quality of food. The food you prepare for yourself will have far less fat, sodium and calories than anything you could buy at a restaurant or fast food eatery.

You need exercise and healthy eating habits in order to lose weight. Try to find an exercise routine you find appealing, and make sure you complete it at least three times weekly. Try doing things that you like to do when exercising becomes tiring. For example, go for a walk with your friends instead of staying inside. Sign up for a formal dance class if you already enjoy dancing. If you like to hike, look for trails you do not know about!

You won’t eat junk food if there isn’t any in the house. By filling your house with healthy food options, which include vegetables, fruits, and granola bars, you will prevent any bad choices. Avoid temptation by making sure only healthy, nutritious foods enter your house.

Have your friends support you in whatever way they are able. Even though it is still ultimately up to you to lose weight, their support can be a great source of motivation. Having someone to report to makes it more likely you stay committed to your goals when they seem too hard to reach. If it’s encouragement you need, call a friend. Your friends can give you the added morale boost you need to continue your efforts.
